Why You Shouldn't Wait to Ask Us About Labiaplasty

Are you unhappy with your labia? Many women wish their labial tissue was less large, long, or erratically shaped. However, for some women, this issue goes beyond cosmetics and can actually be causing some health issues.

At DiGeronimo MD Advanced Plastic Surgery, we provide labiaplasty for both cosmetic and medical reasons, helping you to get the body you want and deserve and to avoid annoying health problems caused by oversized labia.

Labiaplasty basics

Labiaplasty is just one type of what is commonly called vaginal rejuvenation, even though the vagina isn’t directly involved. The labia are the outer (majora) and inner (minora) lips of the vulva which surround the vaginal opening.

Many women have labia minora that extend further than the labia majora. This can cause feelings of self consciousness and embarrassment as well as actual health issues. A labiaplasty simply reduces the size of the labia minora to make the inner lips around the same length or even a little shorter than the outer ones.

Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Ernest DiGeronimo, will discuss your problems with you and present you with one or more surgical options to resolve them. The procedure is usually completed in just one or two hours and you return home to recover.

Medical reasons to ask for a labiaplasty

There are several reasons you may need a labiaplasty even more than you want one:

Urinary issues

For some women, the inner labia block the urethra, making it difficult to urinate and even causing confusion as to when you are “done” causing continual messes when you visit the ladies’ room. This can lead you to try to hold it too long to avoid the issue, causing urinary tract infections (UTIs).

Bacterial or yeast infections

Longer labia minora can also trap urine and other excretions in the folds, leading to infections of various types. If you’re plagued by constant smell, itching, or burning, it could be a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis, both of which can become chronic.

Chafing and skin tears

Longer labia minora can get into uncomfortable positions, such as pinned against the seat of a bike, trapped between folds of tight-fitting outfits, or even pinched during penetrative intercourse. This can lead to extreme chafing and even minor skin tears or bleeding.

Getting a labiaplasty can help mitigate these health issues and leave you feeling better about yourself and your intimate parts. For more information, give our Miami, Florida, office a call or request an appointment online
