Facelift Q & A

What aesthetic goals can a facelift help me achieve?

If you opt for a surgical facelift to lift and tighten your skin, you can expect:

  • The removal of excess facial fat and skin
  • Tightening of the underlying tissue and muscles
  • Fat repositioning to improve contours
  • Resculpted skin

Dr. DiGeronimo uses his vast experience in providing facelifts to develop a custom surgery plan so you get the beautiful results you desire. A facelift can help you look 5-10 years younger.

Who is a candidate for a facelift?

The best candidates are in their late 30s or older and have no compromising health problems. Your skin should still be able to stretch and heal readily. Dr. DiGeronimo evaluates your goals and the condition of your skin to determine if a facelift is right for you.

How is a facelift performed?

A facelift is a surgical procedure requiring general anesthesia. Dr. DiGeronimo begins by making incisions, usually at the hairline and within the natural crease between the ear and the face.

Sometimes incisions are made under the chin. He then lifts the skin, which is pulled taut and stitched while any excess fat is removed.

You typically go home the same day to continue healing. In some cases, you may need to spend one night in the hospital.

What should I expect during recovery from a facelift?

You’ll have some bruising and swelling following a facelift, which may take several weeks or months to resolve completely.

The skin of your face and neck will feel tight, but these side effects fade over the course of a few days. The night after your facelift, you’re instructed to sleep with your head elevated.

Are there alternative treatments to a surgical facelift?

Skin tightening can be achieved with InMode® radiofrequency treatment, which addresses excess facial fat and loose skin to create a tighter, tauter appearance without surgery.

Silhouette InstaLift® uses dissolving sutures to lift sagging skin. The surgical threads are injected in an in-office procedure to lift and tighten your skin.

They’re not visible to the eye and dissolve with time, but create a scaffolding structure that lifts sagging skin and decreases deep lines.
