Fraxel is one of the most advanced laser treatments for skin available today. Fraxel is used to treat sun damaged skin, uneven pigmentation, and fine lines in just a few painless treatments.
What is the Fraxel laser?
Fraxel is a laser used to treat damaged and aging skin by harmlessly penetrating the outer layer of skin, but only resurfacing 15-20% of the skin during each session. This method protects the skin from enduring too much damage at once and eliminates much of the downtime associated with CO2 or erbium laser resurfacing treatment.
Is it FDA-approved?
The Reliant Fraxel SR Laser has received FDA 510(k) clearances for skin resurfacing procedures; the photocoagulation of pigmented lesions, such as lentigos (age spots), solar lentigos (sun spots) and dyschromia; treatment of periorbital wrinkles and for dermatological conditions requiring the coagulation of soft tissue. It is also approved for the treatment of melasma.
What are the benefits of Fraxel Laser treatment?
This treatment eliminates old epidermal pigmented cells. It also penetrates deeply into the dermis.
What conditions can be treated with Fraxel technology?
Wrinkles, poor texture, large pores, sun spots, brown spots, scars, melasma, and uneven pigmentation can be treated successfully with the Fraxel laser. Optimal improvement is usually visible in about two to three months.
How many treatments will I need?
The greatest benefit is achieved with 4 to 5 treatments, however, Dr.DiGeronimo will be able to determine how many treatments you need.
What happens before treatment?
A topical anesthetic may also be applied to provide more comfort during the procedure.
What are the side effects after treatment?
Side effects are minimal and usually limited to a sunburn-like redness which disappears in a few days. Within 24 hours, new epidermal skin will develop and your skin will have a bronze appearance which can last from three days up to two weeks depending on what level of treatment you have received. As the new epidermal tissue replaces the damaged tissue, your skin will flake off.
September of 2007 brought the introduction of the Fraxel Skin Ecology System, a skincare line specifically formulated and dermatologist-tested to enhance the experience of Reliant’s Fraxel laser treatment, a skin rejuvenation therapy that provides patients with effective, consistent results without significant downtime and risk of complications.
The Fraxel Skin Ecology System is a physician-dispensed cosmeceutical line that includes deep hydration masks, green tea infusion masks, antioxidant infusion serum, foaming cleanser, daily moisturizer (SPF 30) and hydrating night cream.
All components are formulated to enhance the experience of the Fraxel treatment by moisturizing, cooling and protecting the skin throughout the patient's Fraxel treatment cycle and beyond as part of a healthy skincare regimen. Fraxel Skin Ecology System products will be available at physicians' offices.
When can I go back to work?
Typically patients find they can go back to work soon after treatment or the next day.
Can I wear makeup or shave right away?
You may apply make-up or shave soon after treatment.
What can I do to protect my new skin?
Absolutely be sure to wear SPF 30-plus sunscreen and apply twice a day. You must completely avoid the sun and take extra care to protect your skin from more damage. Thermage
The Thermage procedure reduces the signs of aging skin, giving you a more youthful appearance. Also called TharmaCool and Radiothermoplasty, the Thermage procedure is performed with a technology clreared by the US FDA for the treatment of wrinkles around the eyes.
What is the Thermage procedure?
The Thermage procedure is an advanced way of tightening skin that requires only the touch of a sophisticated treatment tip to your skin. It is performed with an advanced radiofrequency device called ThermaCool TC™, and requires no incisions or recovery time.
Is it safe?
The Thermage procedure is very safe. Although it is possible that skin damage can occur, this advanced treatment has been studied carefully in hundreds of patients with minimal reports of lasting adverse events.
How long does it take?
The Thermage procedure can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the area you are having treated. Additional time may be required for skin preparation prior to the procedure.
When will I see results?
In most patients, results appear gradually in 2 to 6 months, although some patients see an earlier response.
How long will the effects of the Thermage procedure last?
Recently published studies show that improvements continue for at least 6 months after a single treatment session. Other studies show that thermal collagen changes can last several years, depending on the rate of the aging process.
How many treatments will I need?
A single treatment has produced good results in a significant number of patients. However, your doctor will assess the number and frequency of treatments required to achieve optimal results for your skin.
How long before I can return to my normal activities?
Most people return to their regular activities immediately following the Thermage procedure. Some people experience mild redness (like a sunburn), but it usually disappears quickly. There is no special care needed after treatment, but sunscreen is recommended as a part of good skin care.
How does it work?
The top layers of your skin are protected with a cooling spray while radiofrequency energy heats the collagen in the lower layers. This heating action causes deep structures of your skin to tighten immediately. Over time, new collagen grows to further tighten your skin and produce a more youthful appearance.
What does the Thermage procedure feel like?
With each tough of the Thermage treatment tip, you will experience a brief intense heating sensation as the collagen in deep layers of your skin is tightened. To protect your skin and make the treatment more comfortable, a cooling spray is delivered before, during, and after each application of the treatment tip. Additionally, as part of pretreatment, an anesthetic cream is usually applied to further enhance your comfort.
